Vittore Anessi
A dream between sports and pastry
Born in 1939, Vittore Anessi came from humble origins. His mother was a housewife, while his father, a World War II veteran, worked as a bank clerk..
The Anessi family raised animals and sold stones for road construction. From a young age, Vittore discovered his great love for football. However, the family’s needs required him to find a job to contribute to the household. So, he began working as a baker, while continuing to cultivate his passion for the ball.
Meanwhile, in the middle of Via Garibaldi in Gavirate, two elderly sisters ran a bar and pastry shop called “Bar Milano”. Vittore started working there as a pastry chef. When the sisters decided to sell the business in 1963, Vittore, together with his brother Pino, took it over, thus starting his entrepreneurial career. The brothers began producing Brutti e Buoni: while Vittore dedicated himself to the production and perfection of the technique, his brother took care of sales. The initial production was about 10 kg per week but, thanks to the growing demand, it increased to reach the current 100 kg per day. A big boom occurs especially during the Christmas period, when the basket of Brutti e Buoni with a bottle of champagne is sold out.

One of Vittore’s great achievements was the promotion of Brutti e Buoni to a wide clientele. He always did it with style and a big heart. He deeply loved his city Gavirate and the Brutti e Buoni, and the billboards he created at the time were clear evidence of this. They always bore the inscription “Gavirate, city of Brutti e Buoni.” The name “Antica Pasticceria Milano” never appeared on any billboard. This gesture earned him the sweet reproaches of his wife Olga who often accused him of promoting Brutti e Buoni and Gavirate also for other producers. His answer, decisive and full of confidence, was always:
“You let people come to Gavirate and taste the Brutti e Buoni, they will decide which is the best.”
Vittore Anessi joined the Gavirate Calcio football team, leading the team to excellent results and remaining a point of reference for the sports community. On the occasion of the club’s 70th anniversary, he organized a grand event, having a “golden Brutto e Buono” made as a gift for the guests. His passion for the territory was reflected in every initiative. He participated in numerous sporting events, distributing his sweets to the fans. An example is the Tre Valli Varesine cycling race, during which the Brutti e Buoni were launched from the famous white and orange van, still a symbol of the pastry shop. Even today, Antica Pasticceria Milano continues to collaborate with local sports organizations, a commitment to the community that is also honored by the Gavirate Calcio field, named after him.
